While I was on a roadtrip to Santa Cruz my friend, Eric, texted me asking if I wanted to go to Joshua Tree for a few days. I was pretty exhausted from driving and the last thing I wanted to do was drive to the desert during one of the summer’s hottest heat waves. But after a day of thinking it over I tossed five gallons of water, a box of poptarts, a gallon of spicy tomato juice, and six warm cans of Pabst into my car and headed out to the desert.
We hiked all day, drank a fifth of Sailor Jerry, talked about Eric’s trip to Israel during the country’s volatile conflict with Palestine earlier this summer, came face to face with a rattlesnake, and I sweat out of every pore on my body. It was a good getaway from the Southern California summer beach scene. I’m really glad Eric convinced me to go because it was super refreshing. Enjoy this short film from our wanderings.
